Carrig House

A delightful country house hotel, nestled beside the serene waters of Lough Caragh deep within the mountainous countryside of Kerry, Carrig House is one of Ireland's top hotels.

Tucked neatly away amid some of Ireland's most inspiring scenery and set within wonderful gardens of iridescent flowers, Carrig House is a charming 19th Century residence lovingly restored to it's original glory. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful hideaways you could find, Carrig House has a timeless quality that further adds to its allure.

Within its ivy glad, lemon yellow walls, the house is exquisitely decorated with old world charm. Furnished with fine antiques from Ireland, England and France, with various interesting objects d'art filling the many nooks and crannies, while the homely scent of turf from roaring fireplaces mingles with that of freshly cut flowers.

Each of the wonderfully appointed bedrooms at Carrig House are spacious and elegant. Lavishly decorated, again with period furnishings and charming little features and elegantly laid bathrooms. Some have four-poster beds, some have garden terraces and many have stunning views across the lake, but all are a dream for any sybarite.

At Carrig House they are rightly proud of their cuisine. The restaurant situated overlooking the lake, has won huge critical acclaim and has a long-standing reputation for excellence. Here you'll find the finest Irish food, fresh salmon and trout from the lake, succulent Kerry lamb from the mountains, wild game and homegrown organic vegetables from the kitchen garden. Good old-fashioned country house cooking and you won't go hungry!

Your urbane and friendly hosts and professional staff are very helpful and add to the charm of the surroundings. It's no surprise that Carrig House is among Ireland's best-loved hotels.

At Carrig House you'll find some of the cleanest air in Europe, breathtaking mountains, natural green woodlands and wonderful lake lands. There is ample opportunity for immersing yourself into this landscape from walking, boating, and cycling and for golfers there is a wealth of courses in this corner of Ireland such as those at Ballybunion, Killarney and Waterville.

Carrig House are proud winners of the following prestigious awards:

Georgina Campbell's Ireland Guide "Hideaway of the year 2009"
AA Restaurant Rosette 2009
Private Ireland "Honours for service and hospitality "2009

Guest Reviews of Carrig House

This hotel is in a really beautiful location and the proprietors and their staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The only negative comment I would make is that the bathroom facilities needed some attention, i.e. the shower screen seal on the side of the bath leaked badly and left quite a puddle on the floor and the hot water tap on the basin was so loose that it spun around and if water got underneath the fitting it would run onto the floor.

Nice locality and very friendly. But no bar, no lift and no TV which is unusual for a hotel of this grade

Carrig House was one of the few disappointments because we were really looking forward to the evening meal there from a fabulous menu but the kitchen was shut on a Wednesday because of the holiday weekend before?? We had to drive back to Killorglin to a pub.

Would have been nice to have a room with tv and tea and coffee. Very unusual not to find these things as standard.

By far the best hotel we used. Certainly excellent value for money. We would have liked to have stayed at least another night!

This would be a wonderful place for a Honeymoon, or romantic get-away. The view is spectacular. It's not the best place for a group of teenage kids, although they had satellite TV ;-)

This hotel is lovely, people are great. It would better serve guests with someone to assist with baggage. In order for us to get to our beautiful ground floor room, we had to carry our bags up stairs and back down again to the room. The office girl helped as much as she could. This did not seem appropriate for this tupe of facility. Thank you, Barbara Lynn traveling with Faith Benson

Absolutely wonderful! The owner, Frank, conversed with us and made us feel like we were home. It was a great place to stay for our adventure around the Ring of Kerry. Peaceful, beautiful and excellent cuisine!

Water goes thru peat and you are told by owners not to drink it. Owner provided ice water 1st night but we got in after 11 on 2nd night and we didn't want to disturb him. Problem solved if bottled water provided in room like every other place we stayed. Wonderful place, great staff.
